Sol - Let There Be A Massacre

Aphotic Death-Doom played by the Rancor from
Return of the Jedi. Sole member Emil Brahe may have over-dubbed his vocals slightly but creates spaces still frightening between instruments smoldering as much as resounding one-by-one in this debut album. What starts off as another poorly recorded "funeral" Doom record ends with a handful of ideas that may yet lead to greater things. As Sol gradually sloughs the familiar drudgery of plodding low-end overlaid with wilting leads the atmosphere seems to thicken, almost giving off odors as the notes touch down in the vivid landscapes of plagues and misery paraded in the militaristic, NON-esque sounds of “Boginki,” with Brahe’s mega-phoned cry of “End all life,” sure to bruise even the most experienced sensors. This attitude finally has its apotheosis in the greater “Era of Decadence,” and rests uneasily amid the frail coupling of reeds and accordion in “Apocalypse.”
