Show Report: Celestia, Bone Awl, Agrath

What it do. Agrath is a three-piece Latino band from NYC. Primitive black metal with controlled “grim” vocals and guitar. Hooded bass player has upside cross necklace and pentagram necklace. Drummer plays bass in Negative Plane. All mid-tempo – even the fast stuff was slow. Hand moving chords the whole time.
Bone Awl was kinda perfect. Slow oompah most of the time. Everything seemed to be played slower than it should. The bass player played all the accents and details wearing a button up golf shirt and a new wave skater hairdo.
Larry said the drummer hit like a pussy. Melvin said they sounded like a garage band. I thought they were great. Primitive and deliberate. Not so demonic, but dead.
Drank beers for cheap elsewhere, and sipped from das flask and boy was Celestia a wimpy headliner. French dudes that grew up on Emperor and never heard AC/DC in their lives. All tricky backwards chords complemented by other chords and no bass player. Corpse paint all, and a pretty lame singer with no oomph. Funny to see short haired jew-fro'd drummer immediately afterwards in sleeveless BURZUM shirt and snow-camo cargo pants smoking a cig on someone's Lexus on the street.
