Raw Power. Credit Boulder/Midnight with makin’ punk Metal PUNK again. Once picdiscs were hung, sluts unleashed, leather shined free of its fluid stain, rancid couplings with Venom’s play-it-kaput-ja MO and attitude forever more Darby Crash than Sid Vicious enlisted denim warriors all over zee Internet. Logically following: Bone Awl broke eGay banks with its Skrewdriver-meets-Ildjarn oompah. (And Darkthrone became much less interesting than their Dreadful coverart.) Stage set, ja: Little wunder Virginia’s Satan’s Satyrs combine Stooges and
Damaged-era Black Flag with bubblegum biker Satanism to land tha Next Big Thing.
Two guys. Guitar, bass, drums, vocals. Motorcycle jackets. Kutte. Drunken photos in a graveyard. Seen it all before. But we haven’t heard an Iggy Stooge mimetic this swell since Awesome Color caused Byron Coley ‘n’ Thursty Moore to Tango & Cash their ways to infinitely greased seats. “Pass the bottle / Pass the grass / Flying high and living fast / Acid bikers too crude for hell / So Satan cursed them with bestial spell!” Not too goddamn shabby.
