Is it really still uncool amongst music crit types to like late period Black Flag? I thought that was one of those reactionary things, where kids who grew up punk were so allergic to metal they hated stuff that even sounded like what they thought metal might sound like. I think Slip It In and My War are their best stuff. And Black Flag are one of my favorite bands, so that puts those albums pretty high on the list for me.
Gregg Ginn stops by occasionally to play the city I live in, and we don't get a ton of high profile live acts, so that should be great for me. He's graduated from punk to jam rock, though, and jam is maybe the only style of music I explicitly hate. It's like some kind of horrible practical joke.
Never cared for Rollins or the Rollins Band either. I lot of the music that I listen to is macho bullshit, but something about his macho bullshit in particular rubs me the wrong way.
The Morris/Cadena eras get the most ink. When I was growing up, admitting you liked IN MY HEAD lumped you immediately in with the Monte Carlo driving, Budweiser drinking, Mullet rocking, SOD listening metalheads. The rest is for the memoirs.
I love the first GONE record, too. But, yeah, I always preferred jelly over jam.
I almost died in a Monte Carlo once. Thought we could take the exit ramp doin 80. Thanks for reminding me. Some damn fine writing here. The design is rule too.
I was just saying the other day "what the hell happend to greg ginn?". I think he needs a suitcase of weed again! Comment about in my head above is hilarious.
