Nominon - Omen

 November 30 2009 at 06:17:32 AM

A: We are no one! No one! Sweden’s Nominon may as well be. Rarely see these guys getting quick service. Could be a problem with consistent quality and little to no window-dressing in blogosphere and zine inties, deciblurbs, preposterously overblown rumination re: cover-art, Foucault, existential Swedish horror. I saw ‘em years ago in Atlanta and stood stoned, bought, sold. Weaponized proficiency has a way of mesmerizing even mastodonic assholes such as myself. What the fuck? Even bought a long-sleeve, printed, yes.

This EP is longtime coming. Think Terra Necrosis – another record festooned with reaper scythe and skull, yes – was over two years ago. The debut, Recremation – yet another record festooned with reaper scythe and skull, yes – almost five years past. So, Omen, three new tracks and one poorly recorded but excellent live tune, is more of what I expect. It’s tighter than a preacher’s dick in a cow’s ass. Killer riffs, breakdowns, vox… Maybe if the band were marketed as AdBusting eco-farmers who share affinity with Native Americans and nigger hating Scandi has-beens, they’d bump some drone off the cover-story tip. Raise a glass of glog to hope, yes.

hahahaha. you sure you don't want to "save that for the paying gig?" and if by the payin gig you mean the village voice...can't wait to see what other shit you're planning on slingin.

really funny how butt hurt people got about probably the only negative piece of press any of those bands has ever received.

I didn't really plan on that piece; it just kind of came together over a few weeks.

I knew how it was going to be received. Writing for Stylus showed me how seriously and personally people take writing about their favorite bands and their favorite bands' shortcomings - and fans.

Really though: Didn't imagine a bunch of responses to be published on several different sites calling me out as some "misinformed douche."

The alleged "Village Voice Sucks!" chant during the NYC Pelican show is a high-point for me this young December.

oh I bet this band is a scorcher. for all the hard time I occasionally give, I've been following your writing since (I think) before you had the LHP column at Stylus, so it's been a minute. you and Cosmo are two of the few metal writers who I think are worth reading. All metal writing devolves into semi-brainless hyperbole when the writer finds something they truly love, but I appreciate your and his rationales for your critiques. And while I certainly don't always agree I value the recommendations, insight and consistency. Also yeah...any creep that lurks around here could tell that the VV thing was sort of various barbs stitched together.

All for the hyperbole as long as it works within the confines of its subject. The flagrant BUY-THIS-LOVE-IT-SO-MUUUCH-BROOOOO thing = suppository: aint the magic bullet youse used to.

I was at that show too! Their performance was killer. Where's your show report, eh??? And don't forget Quinta Essentia (haha). (Co)incidentally I picked this and Sub Atris Caelis up earlier in the week. Solid releases from both, indeed. Heard word of a possible IO tour in 2010..
