Suckers still creaming over the fact that Kirk Hammet is soloing again, or that Hetfield and Ulrich still know how to pilfer from Diamond Head, need to back up until the truth sinks in. When you read that anything new by these divas is a "thematic sequel of sorts" (Brian Hiatt,
Rolling Stone), know that it means they've completely run out of gas.
For every minute of
Death Magnetic's over-blown track list, there's a band that never sold out, never wimped out and never made you embarrassed to see what they'd come up with next. Maybe they never had the chance; maybe they just knew when to punch out. This one's for the has-beens that didn't get to make their first million; the-never-was and coulda beens, the overlooked, the fallen and the forgotten Thrash Metal bastards of yore: Fuck this shit.
