Into the Void

In January of this year Annick Giroux, author of
Hellbent for Cooking: The Heavy Metal Cookbook, editor of
Morbid Tales fanzine and lead singer for Heavy Metal outfit Cauchemar, made a decision to do what most people only dream about. Annick, together with her husband and bandmate Francois Patry left their jobs, home and whole life behind in Montreal, Canada to travel the world non-stop. Not a vacation. Now,
this is their life.
So far they’ve hit 5 countries in 5 months all over North, Central and South America, from Mexico, Colombia and Chile to Argentina and Bolivia, where the two recently attended their first ever Accept concert.
Annick and Francois’s adventures are cataloged in their online journal,
Into the Void, which from the reader’s perspective is anything but. The site is updated with impressive regularity and Annick's always entertaining, informative and unique commentary on local food, pubs, landmarks, and customs. (Where else are you likely to find such totally awesome and on point descriptions like “a Trouble style tree”?)
Of course, in addition to all this, there’s the Metal. The pair are not just sightseeing, but also playing Cauchemar shows with friends and local bands from each country who’ve welcomed them into their homes, helping to score LPs along the way. And they said the underground was dead!
Future destinations include Asia, Europe and North Africa. Why not take a break from your own grind, stop by Into The Void and wish these two bad-asses all the best?
