Impetuous Ritual - Relentless Execution of Ceremonial Excrescence

 December 3 2009 at 12:00:00 PM

Prost! After totally screwin’ the pooch – and any other mammalian/reptilian orifices that would indulge him – via myriad “Ars Gratia Artis” projects – Chris “Hosehead” Bruni’s Profound Lore coaxes two quasi-neo-surrealist devotees from the ultimately disappointing Jazzetal troupe, Portal, into playing bona fides Death Metal.

No, honey: Not the slick, no-humor Swede shit. The slap-silly, juvy, gooey, menses-drippin’-from-the-basement-ceilin’ shit. Yes. Death Metal as Rebus puzzle – skull, scythe, garden o’ stone – has as much in common with Impetuous Ritual as mujahideen and the distraught goats they fuck.

Nonsensical band name! Nonsensical record title! Song titles generated by Deleuze & Guattari on Special K! As sonically dense as Portal’s Seepia but bereft of woeful downshift to follow. No Jaco. No Weather Report. No Death Metal deconstruction for small liberal arts college staff to tinker with.

Since I can’t sit at home, pull tubes, suck back Schlitz, flip through my three trillion thesauri and ponder what the sweet fuck “Convoluting Unto Despondent Anachronism” could mean, I’ll troll messageboards so I can be sure to get dibs on first of many colored vinyl eds to come down the pipe.

Won’t go into “intention” here. I leave that for the paying gig. But I’ll offer caveat. I’m a sucker for ‘em: Beware those of the fixed-gear! This is cookin’ with gas, ya “douche.”

Love that fall-apart at the kit vibe here. C'mon, man!

I dig the fuck out of this album. Also a little put off by making songtitles sound like stipulations in a class action lawsuit, but solid metal in my eyes.

All the songs sound the same to me, but I like that one song, a lot! Stay safe, Phil.

Damn! I wrote my MA thesis on Deleuze and Guattari (available through your local library's database subscriptions!).

    Wonderful reference.
