Hospital Productions store not feeling well

Word on the street is that the Hospital Productions store is in some hot water because of a leasing situation. Before anyone jumps to conclusions... Hospital is small, rented spot in the basement of the Reggae store, Jammy Land, located in the lower east side of NYC. While I don't know all the details, it seems, from what I've read, that the owner of Jammy Land is not going to renew his lease. The trouble lies in that whomever Dom (proprietor of Hospital store/label and the brains Prurient and Ash Pool) is renting from (my speculation is the owner of Jammy Land) neglected to tell him about the non-renewal even knowing six months ago he was not going to renew.
A statement on
Hospital's website states that Dom is looking to expand his retail space (i.e.- move upstairs) or lose it for good. Subsequently, proceeds from all sales be it in store or online, will fund this new venture. From what I've read, he's trying to secure $10k in a few days time to accomplish this goal.
Coming from someone who has visited the store, albeit not a regular customer, it would be a crying shame that his store goes under. Yes, the place was small, but the selection was top notch be it for experimental/noise, metal, black metal or otherwise and above all else, Dom was one of the nicest people ever. He was blunt with his opinions when asked if something was worthy or purchase or not and went as far to give me a preview up the upcoming Ash Pool album months prior to its release. To add to that, the aura of the store was one of the best I've experienced... from the framed relics showcasing the aftermath of Prurient gigs to the one-of-a-kind, handmade test pressing covers for various Hospital related releases all against the red painted walls with piles upon piles of music everywhere. It's truly an awesome place and I hope to visit again (if all goes well!) when i go back to the city.
