Dissection - Live in Stockholm 2004

Second curtain call for Dissection’s
Live in Stockholm. And those who choose to love/hate the Swedish band’s progenitor, Jon Nodtveidt, have sure quandary finding fault with faultless execution and passion displayed throughout the record’s 12 tracks.
Bull-strong reaction, whether positive, negative, or feigning indifference is a given. Nodtveidt was no weekender. Card-carrying member of MLO and Werewolf Legion, pegged for accessory murder rap with a little “hate-crime” spice to salt the print is certainly one way to make one’s mark. Playing ethereal melodic Metal with unmatched panache and purpose is another. For Nodtveidt, music and method were not only identical, but also parasitic. One could not flourish – much less survive – without the other.
Such authencity remains unparalleled. It also remains, “dodgy,” to volk who hail the make but damn the maker. Hitting the swimming hole without getting wet remains a favorite pastime, apparently, and I can’t help but flash a grin like a tar baby trapped in a briar patch pondering the rationalization that will surely come forth – thousandfold – to help reconcile liking – no – loving this music. It’s the “dawn of descending” and I’m in need of something bleak ‘n’ blue wrought from Wahlin, lit up on high by storm of the light’s bane.
