“Decapitated Crawl” almost sounds like S.O.D.’s “March of the S.O.D.” Don’t it? OK, maybe not…, Coffins do the Sludge thing exceptionally well and still manage to maintain that gonad-tuggin’ low-fuckin’-end even on the midtempo skank. I don’t know how they do it, but they’re better humans for it and it’s time someone or something gave them money to make gawdamn sure that they continue to do what it is they’re doing. The Arm & Sword of a Bastard God makes me want to listen to Fudge Tunnel, and that either means I don’t like them, or they remind me of Fudge Tunnel or both. Whatever it means, “Band-With-Too-Long-Name” has some totally magnificent song titles: “Giant Invisible Liar,” and “Shit Life” are like the Family Circus kids possessed by Peter Bagge. Somebody get me a doctor.
