Barbatos - Let's Fucking Die!
April 12 2008 at 09:41:08 AM

A nude, straight-haired platinum blond crouches against the windowsill and reaches back with both hands and breaks the cheeks of her sunburnt ass in two. Her mouth is agape in mock rapture. And there's a school-boy drawing of a Japanese Zero roaring overhead. I'm all one for mixed messages and this one is the barefooted stepchild of Jello Biafra and Lip Cream's abysmal black coffee induced allnighter.
Repetitive, megalomaniacal, and hopelessly puerile, Japan's Barbatos manage to sound like mildly sped up Flipper and the wealth of late Venom's silliness all within the span of six minutes. Songs such as "Beer is My Leader," "Baby, I'm Your Man," and "Smash the Fucking Discos" make this record some sort of epoch spanning 10,000 degrees of separation involving Fear, early Circle Jerks, Cook's Beer soaked Oi! and Artaud via Harmony Korine. As if that weren't enough, I've yet to find anything positive about either the band proper or this recording, which is always a profound fuckin sign of accomplishment.
