Abscess - Dawn of Inhumanity

Cute little things, aren't they?
Long after pulling the sheet over pioneering Death Metal act Autopsy, founding member Chris Reifert and friends continue to surf through cesspools of sin and insanity as Abscess, a band whose superior record of obscenity should keep them forever outside that spotlight shone posthumously on their former incarnation, whose infamy was, if you consider criticism of this album’s artwork as being too juvenile for the freaks responsible for “Charred Remains,” and “I Shit On Your Grave,” seldom fully appreciated to begin with. (But then we’re living in a time when everyone still pretends to care about Gorguts.) Passing a flask before some ungodly altar of GG Allin and S. Clay Wilson, bad taste was always on the agenda. With their latest album,
Dawn of Inhumanity, Abscess successfully round out an already swollen repertoire of splatter and thrash. A bridge of corpses from Black Flag to early Trouble shaking the trip from “Torn from Tomorrow” to the title track’s stalking close. Fluid still spewing from behind Reifert’s every word even as the lyrics have grown from simply gross to progressively weird, finding equal representation in the cover’s brain-mutations marking a bloody trail from the id. Deal sealed in the second half with best song this band has ever written in “What Have We Done to Ourselves?”
